SEO Secrets #3 – Links

Every website starts out as a small island with no connections to the big city. It takes some effort on your part to make sure searchers can find your site.

A good way to start off is make others successful and linking to other major sites that are similar to yours. If the company or person has articles that are similar to yours why not provide a link to them for your users to view theirs as well?

A link to their site will help boost you in the search engines as well. This tactic is used often with business cards or flyers between small businesses. A pizza shop may drop off flyers off at a nearby sub shop to let the customers of the sub shop know there is a pizza shop right around the corner. The next time that that sub customer is in the mood for pizza they know that there is a pizza shop in the area. Why not apply the same tactic with links?

Be careful when linking to other sites because all links are not created equal. Make sure you have checked out the site to see if you really want to link to it, see if the site is relevant to your site or article. The goal is to provide quality to the searchers. There is no need to mislead searchers with false links just to get them to view your site, it’s just wrong!

Another tactic to try is to encourage your readers to link to your page. After each article provide a link that will make it easy for them to copy and paste into their site. The easier you make it for the readers the more links you will get.
